We bought a plane!

Yes, we did – really! We embarked on this journey in June 2024, and now, over a year later, on July 10th, 2025, we have finally reached our destination. In previous posts I’ve shared how this all started and how I moved from renting the PH-VTB to (partially) owning the F-GSBM.

Today is pickup time. This will probably be my last flight with the PH-VTB. Bas and I will fly to Lille, where the F-GSBM is waiting for us.

Let’s get our baby home!

Once all the paperwork was done and we, reluctantly, signed the “updated” sales agreement, we could start on the fun part of today: fly our baby home.

I will fly back in the PH-VTB and Bas is in the F-GSBM. Look at this happy camper.

The Robin is a faster climber than the Cessna and I quickly lost sight of him. Only when we got closer to Dordrecht, I found Bas again and was able to take some pictures of him.

Bas reached Teuge before I did, so he had to get into a “holding pattern” so I would be on the ground before he landed.

Home, at last

And once he taxied to our new hangar, we got visitors welcoming the new resident. One of the owners of a hangar “next door” came over with a nice bottle of wine. And cake was served to celebrate the moment.

Then it was time to clean the bird. Even now, our captain is smiling. Wonder if he is going to continue to look like this over the next years when cleaning is involved.

Then it was time to take a picture of the proud owners in front of the shiny plane.

After months of searching, doubting, calculating, and traveling, the journey that began on a spreadsheet ends in our own hangar.

This is the beginning of a new era - spontaneous trips, cleaning sessions, maintenance, and memories yet to be made. Let the fun begin!
